Post-P.T horror game
Horror Tales: The Wine is an adventure game that takes players to a post-pandemic fictional Mediterranean island. Here, you play a young protagonist in search of a bottle of wine. However, his nemesis is in his way.
Horror Tales: The Wine is not only an exploration game. Completing your mission entails solving environmental riddles, physics puzzles, and other challenges. As this is a horror game, you will also face jump scares. However, you’ll find that the gameplay is rather basic. While there is some nice environmental storytelling, the plot could use more engaging storytelling.
All for a bottle of wine
In Horror Tales: The Wine, you play Marti, who went to a post-P.T Mediterranean island in search of a bottle of wine. No, he’s not an alcoholic. The red wine called Banydebosc red wine is believed to have the power to cure the Devil’s Fever which infected Marti’s family. With this, he has to explore the abandoned city to find the last bottle of the rumored wine.
As mentioned, the game is more than exploration. You will also solve various puzzles, including environmental riddles and physics puzzles. However, the riddles are not only your challenge. Someone is obsessed with you and will relentlessly hunt you down. Moreover, tons of apparitions will freak you out as you go on your missions. Even worse, there is no combat. You can only run away from your enemies.
The game comes with an engaging story, but it could use more engaging storytelling. You pretty much have to unravel the story yourself by reading notices littered around. You will appreciate the visuals, which are of a high standard. It packed plenty of details and allowed for plenty of picturesque locations. What’s more, you can use the Photomode, which creates shots and unlocks many secrets.
A solid start
All in all, Horror Tales: The Wine is a game that horror fans should definitely consider. It has an intriguing and chilling story told in genuinely hair-raising scenarios. It also provides a challenge to the players with its mix of environment and physics puzzles. It isn’t likely to wow everyone as its presentation needs more improvement. Nevertheless, it is a solid start to the Horror Tales saga.
